Wilma Guidry

March 29, 1931 — August 20, 2011

Wilma Plaisance Guidry, 80, a native of Larose and resident of Galliano for 57 years, died at 3:30 a.m. August 20, 2011 at Lady of the Sea Hospital.

Visitation will be from 5 to 10 p.m. today and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Falgout Funeral Home in Galliano. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Galliano, with burial in the church mausoleum.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert F. Guidry; one son, John M. Guidry, born in Galliano but residing in Harvey; and one daughter, Joan M. Guidry of Galliano; her surviving grandchildren, Kristen G. Gilbert and husband, Robert V. Gilbert, Jr. and Amber M. Guidry; and her great-grandchildren, Robby J. Gilbert and Kason J. Gilbert; one brother, Lee J. Plaisance and wife, Audrey D. Plaisance; and one sister, Geraldine P. and husband, Herbert Chiasson of Lockport.

She was preceded in death by sister, Nora P. Ledet; her first-born brother, Roland Plaisance; and by her oldest daughter, Carolyn Ann Guidry who died of cancer in 2005; and her grandsons, John M. Guidry Jr., who died in 1975 several hours after birth, and Jacques P. Guidry, who died in 1978, within months of birth.

She graduated from Larose High School as valedictorian and attended University of Louisiana at Lafayette (formally Southwestern Louisiana University) and majored in clothing and designing.

She was wholly devoted to her home, husband, and children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. For many years, she was a substitute school teacher for Lafourche Parish Schools. She taught High School Religion for 15 years. She was a member of La Societe Des Cajuns and president of the organization for thirty years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church's Lady Altar Society, and Auxiliary member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus, Council 3150, and a very active member of Pre Caena with her husband for more than 10 years.

She will be greatly misssed.
