Wilfred Degruise

August 18, 1918 — July 30, 2021

Wilfred Degruise, 102, a native and resident of Raceland, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at St. Mary’s Nativity Catholic Church, Raceland, LA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Douglas Degruise, Mary Vanessa Slawson and David Degruise; great grandchildren, Kailyn, Lily, Rose, James Mason, Daisy and John David and daughter-in-law, Judi Simon Degruise.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anne Degruise; companion, Winnie Babin; son, Jerome Degruise; parents, Adonis and Josephine Degruise; brother, Sidney Degruise and sisters, Mildred Rodriguez, Mae Waguespack and Joyce Plaisance.
Wilfred was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was a parishioner and usher at St. Mary’s Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and making a vegetable garden. He enjoyed working the bingo at the American Legion Home, and going to casinos. Wilfred was an avid LSU fan and enjoyed watching LSU baseball and football.
