It is with deep respect and fond remembrance that we honor the life of Wayne Dufrene. Wayne David Dufrene, passed away on July 28, 2024, in his hometown of Bayou Gauche, Louisiana. Born on July 16, 1947, to Julian and Bertha Dufrene, along with his siblings all predeceased Carel Dufrene, James “Bozo” Dufrene, and Priscilla Breaux.
Wayne was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his honesty, love of country, and stubbornness. Wayne was never afraid to voice his opinion and let his thoughts be known.
A cherished pastime of Wayne's was sharing his experiences in the United States Air Force, where he served from June 16th, 1967, to June 15th, 1971, as a “Spooky” mechanic in the 4th Special Operations Squadron. His travels took him to various countries, his two favorites being Germany for the beer and England for the woman. Rising to the rank of Sergeant, Wayne was recognized with several accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Medal 900-3, The Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, as well as numerous Special Operations Group Medals and Air Force Commendation Medals.
Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Wayne married his beloved angel Rita Mae Hogan Dufrene on June 15th, 1972; in a beautiful ceremony in their backyard. Together, they raised two children: Thor Dufrene and Destiny (Ron) Landry. Wayne’s legacy is also carried on by his adored grandchildren; Laney Borne and Rylie Landry.
Wayne dedicated himself to providing for his family, working diligently in various roles before retiring from the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office in 2013 after more than 26 years of devoted service. Wayne's retirement brought him the joy of savoring his wife's delectable cooking and indulging in his hobbies, such as watching Korean and Mexican dramas, enjoying in his favorite songs and spending cherished moments with his family. Wayne was a constant pillar of support, offering rides, guidance, unwavering encouragement to his family, and weekly supper dates with this children and grandkids.
Family was everything to Wayne. He truly lived a life of service for others, from his career to his willingness to do anything to help his loved ones. We find peace in knowing Wayne and Rita Dufrene are finally reunited in the loving arms of God.
Pallbearers will be Thor Dufrene, Destiny Landry, Ron Landry, Laney Borne, Ronnie Borne and Scott Hogan.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Life Fellowship Church, Bayou Gauche, LA. Religious services will be at 11:00 am with burial to follow in Sunset Cemetery.
