Virgil "Kick Back" Antoine Sampey, 78, a native of Gheens and resident of Raceland, died at 12:35 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2012.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Monday at St. Hilary Catholic Church in Mathews. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial at Holy Savior Cemetery in Lockport.
He is survived by his sons, Wayne Sampey and wife, Angelina, Jody Sampey and wife, Danielle, Leon Sampey, and Chad Sampey and companion, Sandra Lirette; daughter, Natalie Danos and husband, Russell; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Guerrero, Felicia Danos, Heath, Hannah, Betsy, Amanda Sampey and Hailli Arcement; three great-grandchildren, Elexus Danos, Elizabeth Guerrero and Spencer Uzee; and sisters, Katie Theriot, Earline Theriot, Manuella Adams and Dolly Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Noella Sampey; parents, Elvans and Lorita Sampey; and brother, Salvin Sampey.
He was retired from Mathews Sugar Refinery. He loved planting a garden and working on applicances. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
