Velton Guidry

Velton Paul Guidry, 81, a native and resident of Galliano, died Friday, May 27, 2011.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Falgout Funeral Home. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in Cheramie Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude "Gertie" Kiger Guidry; two sons, Leonard Guidry, and Jeffery Guidry and wife, Tonia; two brothers, Roy and Richard Guidry; one sister, Velma Trahan; and three great-grandchildren, Cory, Kyle, and Blake Foret.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gracien and Augusta Chouest Guidry; one brother, Junius Guidry; and two sisters, Jeanette Autin and Hildred Leblanc.

He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of American Legion, Holy Name Society and president of local genealogy club La Societe du Cajun.
