A native and lifelong resident of Mathews, 85-year-old Theresa Dufrene died peacefully and surrounded by her family at Ochsner Hospital in Kenner at 6:11 am on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

Public visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to funeral time on Wednesday, April 11th at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church in Raceland. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, with burial to follow on the grounds of the St. Hilary Church Mausoleum.
Lovingly known as "Mom," "Maw Maw," "Tante," "Ma Mere," and "Resa," she is survived by her seven children, Roland, Jr. and wife Tanya (Stevens), Patrick and wife Beth (Mire), Rose Detillier, Wendy Brunet and husband Eddie, Jude and wife Annie (Pitre), Penny Zeringue, and Bill Dufrene and wife Adele (Foret); 21 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Louise Walker; sisters-in-law, Laura Mae Chauvin (Sampey), Marvely and husband Edgar Boudreaux, Judy and husband Greg Hohensee; brothers-in-law, Rogers Dufrene and wife Lucy (Rivere), Larry Dufrene and wife Anne (Arabie); and generations of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ursule Chauvin; husband, Deacon Roland Dufrene, Sr.; brothers, Zenon and wife Mabel (Allemand), Malcolm "Mac" and wife Molly (Baudoin), and Henry "Wilton" Chauvin; sister, Earline Arabie and husband Murphy; brother-in-law, Irby Walker; and son-in-law, Terrance Detillier.
Theresa was a loving and nurturing homemaker who cooked thousands of meals to warm many hearts. A gifted artist, she also loved to sew, arrange flowers, and create arts, crafts, beautiful still life pieces, and hand-painted nativity sets which can still be seen at Christmastime in the yards of her 7 children. Theresa did everything from driving a tractor and plowing fields as a young girl to even sewing wedding dresses and preparing food for receptions. A humble and quiet spirit, Theresa loved Jesus and accepted him as her Lord and Savior, living her life according to the Scriptures.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and entire staffs of Ochsner's St. Anne in Raceland, Ochsner's in Kenner and Compassus Hospice Service of New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Hilary of Poitiers Church in Raceland. Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland is in charge of arrangements.
