Sylvia Spurlock Dorman, 80, of Golden Meadow, LA, and Jackson, MS, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Community Bible Church, Cut Off, LA. A memorial service celebrating Sylvia will be held at 11:00 am.
Sylvia was born on August 16, 1944 in Detroit, MI and lived in Georgia and Texas until settling in Jackson, Mississippi in 1967 where she raised her family and worked as an accountant for many years. She graduated with a degree in Accounting from Mississippi College in 1994 after her children were grown. She retired from Magnolia Management in 2016 after working there for 25 years.
Everyone lucky enough to spend any time with Sylvia knew she was “one in a million” and an embodiment of God’s grace. To those who wronged her, she forgave. To those in need, she gave comfort. She loved her husband and her children and grandchildren with all she had. Each of them knew they were her favorite! She loved unconditionally because she was unconditionally loved by her Savior. She met her diagnosis of dementia with grace, dignity, integrity and courage because of her faith in Jesus Christ.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Scott Dorman; son, Lee Bowie (Teri) of Oxford, MS; daughters Julie Dorman of Tupelo, MS, and Chellye Patterson (Tom) of Brandon, MS; brother Tom Spurlock (Brenda) of Palmer, AK; granddaughters Massey Bowie of Tulsa, OK, Lauren Patterson of Ridgeland, MS, Brittany Hall (Lee) of New Orleans, LA and Kristina King (Sean) of Madison, MS and grandson Crayton Bowie of New Orleans, LA; two great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Stella Gomez and her father and stepmother Thomas and Ruth Spurlock, brother, Nyles Spurlock, and grandson, Crockett Bowie.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Christina Coleman for her devotion to Sylvia and to everyone at Audubon Rehabilitation in Thibodaux, LA, for providing her a loving home away from home.
