Stuart John Stein, 87, a native of Vacherie and resident of Houma, died at 3:27 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, from complications following surgery.

Visitation will be from 9:15 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at St. Francis Cathedral. Mass will be held at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery No. 2.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Acosta Stein; three daughters, Debra Stein Gaynard, Charlene Stein and husband, Jo McKerall, and Karen Stein Ragusa and husband, Darryl; four sisters, Henrietta Ockmond, Gladys Campo, Bertha Rauscholb and Natalie Hinojosa; brother, James Stein and wife, Doris; seven grandchildren, Brent Gagnard and wife, Michelle, Kirk Gagnard and wife, Katherine, Dr. Madeline Ellis and husband, Barry, Lacey McKerall, Joey McKerall, Katherine Ragusa and Rebekka Ragusa; five great-grandchildren, Kiley Gagnard, Ashlyn Gagnard, Brandon Gagnard, Caroline Ellis, and Elaina Ellis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Stein and Lillian Bourg Stein; and brother, Walter J. Stein.

He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the Tank Battalion and was very proud to be a veteran. He was the manager of Oilwell Supply, Division of U.S. Steel, for 36 years.

He enjoyed dancing with his life's partner, Ruth, fishing, spending time with his family, living life "on the go" doing yard work, and using his hands to fix everything that was broken. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality making his presence known wherever he went and bringing laughter into other's lives. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

The family would wish that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in his name.
