Shelley Michael Tastet, 66, a native and resident of Luling, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 20, 2016.
Born on February 17, 1950, Tastet is survived by his wife Mary Tully Tastet of 40 years; son Brooks Michael Tastet (Suzanne); Gretchen Michelle Tastet (Berto); brothers Earl "Pie" Tastet, Gary Tastet; sisters Jeanette Tassin, Nathalie Giovingo , Stephanie Rester and granddaughter, Addilynn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Joseph Tastet and Julia Nicholas Tastet; brothers Leroy Tastet, Ferris Tastet and sister Debbie Clanton.
Tastet was a graduate of Hahnville High School and attended Nicholls State University. He served his country as a Specialist in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on July 5, 1972. He retired from the Occidental Chemical Company after devoting 35 years of service.
He served as a member of the Lafourche Levee Board for 8 years where he was involved with helping to expedite the process of the West Bank Hurricane Protection Levee Project serving as president during the Hurricane Katrina aftermath.
First elected to the St. Charles Parish Council on November 17, 2007 as the District 2 councilman, Tastet was re-elected to a second term on October 22, 2011 and was recognized for his dedication and service to the citizens of St. Charles Parish. In addition, he served on the various committees of the council, Louisiana Police Jury Association and the National Association of County Officials and on the Hospital Service District Board as Council Ex-Officio.
Tastet was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2409 and owner of Tastet Demolition Services, LLC.
Known for his endless energy, passion and inclusiveness of all he met, Tastet will be fondly remembered for his love for family and life.
Visitation will be from 9:00am – 11:00am on Friday, December 23, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org .
