Ronald Louis Callais, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
Visitation will be held at Falgout Funeral Home, in Galliano, on Friday, May 31st from 5 pm until 9 pm and will continue Saturday, June 1st at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9 am until service time. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 am with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine P. Callais; children, Gavin (Dolly), Bruce (Connie), Lee (Jane), Abdon Callais and Renee (Brien) Karas; grandchildren, Megan, Stephen, Jacob, Erin, Andrew, Caroline, Mela; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Belle Callais Brady; sisters-in-law, Gloria Callais and Susan Callais; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Calvin and Audrey Plaisance and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abdon and Ada Bruce Callais; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rene and Clementine Cheramie Plaisance; siblings, Harold Callais, David Callais and Doris Winfrey and brothers-in-law, Jack Winfrey and John Brady.
Ronald was a long-time business owner and community leader in South Lafourche. He was the owner of Allied Shipyard, Inc., Abdon Callais Boat Rentals, Inc. and Callais Marine Service, Inc., President of the South Lafourche Levee District, Chairman of the Lafourche Parish Hospital Service District No. 1 (Lady of the Sea), Lafourche Parish Police Juror, statewide officer of the Louisiana Jaycees, President of the Association of Levee Boards of Louisiana, and a dedicated parishioner and leader of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galliano. He was proud of his Catholic faith, his Cajun heritage, and his beloved family. He will be dearly missed.
