Robinson "Pouche" Joseph Guidry, 81, a native and resident of Galliano, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to funeral time Friday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the church, with burial in Cheramie Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanette Rebstock Guidry; three sons, Reed R. Guidry, Keith M. Guidry and wife, Sherlene, and Robert J. Guidry and wife, Christine; one daughter, June G. Lefort and husband, Mike; one brother, James Guidry; four sisters, Nita G. Plaisance, Doris G. Stewart, Lolita G. Chouest and Ruth G. Lagarde; seven grandchildren, Guy and Jay Lefort, Melissa, Corey, Sampson, Ike, and Rob Guidry; and three great-grandchildren, Maddox and Logan Guidry, and Jadie Chermie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sampson and Alexina Cheramie Guidry; two grandsons, David Guidry and Matthew Lefort; one daughter-in-law, Pam Guidry; five brothers, Herman, Morrison, Rogers, Robert, and infant brother Sampson Jr.; and one sister, Alzina G. Pitre.
Mr. Guidry loved to carve and build model boats as an art form, which he would donate to local schools and charities. He won 1st many times at the Cajun Heritage festivals for his works. He loved to play the harmonica especially at church services. He was a past citizen of the year and a fisherman by trade that loved trawling and was a great story teller and historian of the local community.
