Robert Henry Bertelsman, 79, a native of Cut Off, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Falgout Funeral Home in Galliano. Interment will follow at Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.
He is survived by his brother, Dale and wife, Marilynn of Lake Jackson, Texas; two nephews, David Bertelsman and wife, Debbie, and Kevin Bertelsman and wife, Kristi; and five great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Victor and Alma Dale Bertelsman.
He was born in Beaumont, Texas on Dec. 28, 1932. He was a graduate of Golden Meadow High School in 1951 and later graduated from Louisiana State University. He participated in the ROTC program at LSU and later served briefly as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He worked as an underwriter in the insurance industry, first in New Orleans and then for many years in New York City. He moved back to Cut Off to care for his ailing mother in 1995.
He was an excellent chef and loved to enjoy fine food and wine. One of his favorite activities was to seek out new restaurants in New Orleans and try them with friends.
