Patrick Floyd Songe Sr., 73, a native of Houma and resident of Bourg, died at 2:22 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2011.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Monday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by four children, Patrick Songe Jr. and wife, Cheryl, Monica Songe Chauvin, Eric Songe, and Ryan Songe and wife, Yvette; two sisters, Bessie Wallace and Karen Songe; two brothers, Harvey Songe and Leland Songe; and six grandchildren, Victoria Songe, Lauren Songe, Nicholas Chauvin, Kaden Chauvin, Alexis Songe and Justin Songe.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maybelle Dupre Songe; his parents, Elie W. and Gladys Domangue Songe; one sister, Evelyn Breaux and infant brother, Eugene.
He was a retired measurement specialist for Mobil Oil, Superior Oil, Texas Gulf Sulfur, and Columbia Gulf Transmission Company. He was also in the Army Reserve and was activated during the Bay of Pigs Crisis.
Floyd was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Cathedral Choir, the Les Amis de le Chanson Choir, and the St. Ann Choir. He was also a devoted church volunteer, serving on the St. Ann Parish Council and various committees, and acting as a eucharistic minister, commentator, lector, and in any other capacity that Rev. Ty requested of him. He delivered meals and communion to area residents who were unable to travel.
Floyd was a true gentleman who earned the respect and love of all those he came in contact with. Always offering his assistance, he readily gave of his time, talent, and treasure to those in need. His smile and the love that he had for his family and friends will never be forgotten and will live on in each of us.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The St. Vincent de Paul Society are preferred.
