Nelson Paul Sampey, age 92, a native of Gheens and longtime resident of Cut Off, born on March 31, 1929, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, beginning at 11 am in Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.

Nelson is survived by his daughters Linda Coplin (Allen Coplin), Ramona Pfister (George Pfister), Lydia Page and Wendy Bourg (Dobie Bourg); sons Emmett Sampey Sr. (Kathy Sampey) and Nathan Sampey (Sarah Schmitt); granddaughters Rainey Durand, Mandy Pfister Lee, Sadey Mercante, Natalia Del Piano, Jennifer Sampey, Tara Rada, Kristen Adam, Alexis Adam, Cynthiana Sampey, Katrice Sampey and Candice Sampey; grandsons Cody Pfister, Brady Pfister, Jozey Pfister, Joshua Coplin, Emmett Sampey Jr., Nicolas Sampey, Jeremy Sampey, Toby Page, Todd Page and Johnny Sampey; many great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Jacquelyn Ann Sampey; parents, Noah Sampey and Aline (Breaux) Sampey, of Raceland; brothers Godwin Sampey and Bobby Sampey; and son Steven Sampey.

His humor and joyful spirit will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
