Nelson Matherne, 81, a native of Bayou Gauche and a resident of Cut Off, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off. Mass will be at noon Thursday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Guidry Matherne; two sons, Mitchell Matherne and wife, Amelia, and Matthew Matherne and wife, Celeste; two brothers, Wesley and Anthony Matherne; two sisters, Ruth Matherne and Madeline Ockman; six grandchidren, Alexis M. Verdin and husband, Craig, Michele Matherne, Ria Matherne and fiance, Dilan LeBoeuf, Mallory Matherne, Tyler Matherne and Lauren Matherne; and two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Ryan Verdin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Flossie Plaisance Matherne; two brothers, Mack and Wilson Matherne; and one sister, Earline Estay.
He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the co-founder of A.N.S. Machines of Golden Meadow.
He was a member of the American Legion and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed golfing, shrimping and playing with his grandchildren.
