Matthew John Russo, Jr.

Longtime Houma resident Matthew John Russo Jr. "packed his grip" and passed away peacefully Monday, May 29th, 2017 at the age of 87. Matt, a.k.a. "Pop", will always be remembered for his unconventional way with words and the endearing nicknames he bestowed upon his many loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his wife Rosemary Thoede Russo, but leaves a legacy through his children, Matthew Russo III (wife Connie), Toni "Sis" Michael (husband Donald), Lisa "Li" Hewitt, Andrea "Zephi-baby" Pierce, Jonathan "Johnny-JP" Russo (wife Pamela), and Shannon "Daddy's Darling" Emich (husband Jedidiah). His grandchildren, Dina "Mighty Mite", Brandon "B-Bop", Matthew, Erin "Kissy", Nicole & Ashley "The Twins", and Ava Rose "Gorgey", and great-grandchildren, Elena "The Baby", Sidney Frances, and Kyle, will never forget their "PawPaw".

Born in New Orleans to parents Jeanette and Matthew Russo Sr., also deceased, he will be remembered fondly by his siblings Michael Russo (wife Karen), Geraldine Lambert, Betty Snow, JoAnn Rouprich (husband Jimmy), Mary Russo, Gloria Folse, and Cynthia Krautkramer (husband Jim).

Pop was admired in life as an accomplished tradesman, specializing in the glass industry. In his free time he loved trekking out to his campsite in Mississippi. When he didn't feel like roughing it, you could find him on the golf course (or at least watching the match on TV).

Matt will be laid to rest at Westlawn Cemetary, 72 West Bank Expressway, Gretna, LA in a private remembrance ceremony to be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please direct contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, MacDonell United Methodist Children's Home, The American Heart Association, or your local animal shelter.
