A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on January 8, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off, Louisiana, for Mabel Rita Autin Guidry, 92, born November 17, 1929; a native of Golden Meadow and a resident of Cut Off, who died on December 23, 2021.
Visitation is from 8:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church until funeral time at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 8, 2022. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her daughters Donna (Richard) LeBlanc, Mary Breaux, Jenny (Barry) Halbert, and Carol (Ron) Miller; her daughter-in-law, Debra K. Guidry; 10 grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; 9 great grandchildren; 6 step-great grandchildren; and 1 step-great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman A. Guidry; son, Chris A. Guidry; parents, L. V. and Ozea Autin; and two brothers, Leonard and Alphonse Autin.
Mabel was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member of the church choir for over 60 years. She sang at over 2,000 church functions including weddings, funerals, holiday and Sunday masses, as well as the weekly masses at the local nursing homes. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and a catechism teacher for several years.
She spent 3 years teaching elementary school in Golden Meadow. Mabel was very involved in many school activities with her five children, a Girl Scouts leader, PTA president for several local schools, and a Red Cross volunteer. She, along with her husband, was one of the founders and active member of the Cut Off Youth Center.
Mabel always loved music and singing. For 20 years, she was a member of the Houma Bayouside Sweet Adelines Chorus. Through her membership, she was instrumental in providing many hours of singing performances all over the country, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Denmark, Austria, and Russia.
She was most proud of her children’s and grandchildren’s college degrees.
Mabel was a wonderful, caring, thoughtful, classy, and beautiful mother who instilled values and belief in God in all her children.
Special thanks and deep gratitude to the staff of Franklin Park in Boerne, Texas, where Mabel was residing following Hurricane Ida; Embrace Hospice staff, and her wonderful caretakers who were such great companions before the hurricane—Belinda, Wanda, Ophelia, Mary, and Sylvia.
