Leroy “T-Black, Paw” Chabert, 91, a native and a resident of Cut Off, LA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 25, 2024.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Larose, LA. Military services will be at 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 pm with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Leroy is survived by his 5 children Karen Chabert, Katie (Johnny Jr.) Callais, Karla (Todd) Cheramie, Kris Chabert (Ann Marie), Kammy (Corey) Giambrone, his 6 grandchildren Jared (Heather), Amber, Emelie, Hannah (Ross) Alyssa (Jace), Claire (Jake). His 10 Great-Grandchildren Karlyn, Kenadi, Iyron, Aviana, Jasmine, Jayden, Caroline, Kaiden, Jaxson and one baby on the way.
He is proceeded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Audrey Punch Chabert, his parents Wallace Sr. and Emelie Guidry Chabert, brothers Harris Sr., Alidor, Wallace Jr., “T-Wal”, Walter “Kata” and his sisters Noeda “Da-Da”, Dorine, Isabelle, Alice and brother, Luke “T-Luke”.
While attending Cut Off High School, he became a member of the 6-man football team as well as star basketball player. Leroy proudly served his country in the Korean War with US Army, Sergeant at Arms. He was a member of the Cut Off Senior Citizens, Larose VFW Post #8538 and a past member of KC Counsel #8898 of Larose. Leroy loved to dance and listen to Cajun music. He was proud of many things in life, being most proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Paw never missed an opportunity to spend time with his family, no matter what Paw was always there!
Leroy was a shrimper by trade and retired with his friends from Southern Guard Security. The family is at peace knowing he is now reunited with his wife, his father, his mother (who he never knew) and the rest of his family but most importantly with God, our savior.
