Leonard was known to those he knew for his wit and humor. He held the nickname “Whistle” as he could always be heard whistling a tune, telling a joke or sharing a story as he made his rounds throughout Raceland. Some of his other known nicknames were “Little Leonard”, “Brother”, and just plain “Falgout”. However, he was most lovingly known as “Bae”, “Daddy”, and “Paw Paw”.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Gordon Ann Hebert Falgout who he called his “Angel”, children Thomas Falgout (Lisa), Benton Falgout (Tonya), and Denise Falgout; grandchildren; Lilly Jane, Lane Paul (Kayleb), Abigail Ann, Colin Michael, and Katherine Ann, great grandchild; Wyatt Thomas, sister; Linda Falgout Stevens (Francis).
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; Leonard Jr. and Carol Ledet Falgout, and sister; Carol Ann Falgout Murzi and a multitude of dear friends and family.
His passion for both fishing and hunting took him across North America, but his favorite spots to spend time in the outdoors with those special to him were Grand Isle, Lake Fields, Golden Ranch, and Orange Grove. Spring and Summers were spent in Grand Isle with family as he participated in both inland and offshore fishing tournaments. The Fall and Winter season began with Teal season at the end of summer and carried on until the last day of hunting.
His love of hunting extended to his passion for collecting wooden duck decoys. He frequented the festivals around the state with others who shared his passion and held his favorite artists in high esteem.
Leonard was a graduate of Raceland High School (1957) and enjoyed lunch outings and reunions with his classmates. He also attended Loyola University and Soule College of New Orleans.
He began driving the ambulance as part of the family business at the age of 16 and followed in both his grandfather and father’s footsteps to spend his lifelong career with Falgout Funeral Homes / Lafourche Life Insurance.
His love for the community was acknowledged by many but his fondest memories were being named Sauce Piquante King for his many years as the festival food chairman and the Admiral of the Golden Meadow Tarpon Rodeo. Leonard was also a volunteer fireman with the Raceland Fire Department.
Leonard will be missed by many but especially his wife & children, who he spoke with daily and his grandchildren who made him light up with every interaction as he told them. “I am so proud of you”. Leonard ended each phone conversation with both his children and grandchildren with “I love you”.
