Leonard "Red" J. Cheramie, 80, a native of Golden Meadow and a resident of Cut Off passed away Dec. 23, 2012, at his home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Falgout Funeral Home in Galliano. Visitation will also be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Friday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Laura Griffin Cheramie; sons, Philip Cheramie and wife, Sandra, Jason Cheramie and wife, Becky, Dwayne Cheramie and wife, Shelley, and Todd Cheramie and wife, Karla; daughter, Dinah Cheramie and husband, Steve; brother, Johnny Cheramie; sister, Loretta Pierce; 12 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amay and Lydia Rousse Cheramie; granddaughter, Candy Jo Cheramie; and grandson, Jason Paul Cheramie.
He loved sports, traveling and dancing. He was also an avid hunter and trawler who enjoyed spending time at his camp. He was a fanatic football fan who followed South Lafouche High School, LSU and the Saints. He loved to visit his daughter and son-in-law at their ranch in Mississippi, especially during their annual boucheries. He was a tool pusher in the oilfield for 36 years and the owner/operator of Red and Sons Seafood for 18 years. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends, who all loved him very dearly.
