Larry Anthony Dufrene

Larry Dufrene, age 84, native of Gheens and resident of Mathews, Louisiana passed away on November 10, 2024. 

Visitation will be held at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Holy Savior Cemetery.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Anne Arabie Dufrene; two sons, Ryan Dufrene (Amy) and Ben Dufrene; grandson, Seth (Ryan); two sisters, Marvely Boudreaux (Edgar) and Judy Hohensee (Greg); sister-in-law, Lucy Ann Dufrene (Rogers); brother-in-law, Peter Arabie (Ruth) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Venton and Lucretia Dufrene; his two brothers, Roland Dufrene, Sr. (Theresa Dufrene) and Rogers Dufrene, Sr.

Larry will be forever remembered as a patient, hard-working, and kind man who was known for his meticulous craftsmanship and care for detail. He was a 1964 graduate of Nicholls State University. He retired from Lafourche Parish Schools in 1997 after devoting 33 years of service as an educator at Lockport Junior High where he taught 7th and 8th grade math and computer literacy. He had recently retired from his business, Dufrene and Pitre’s Painting after 51 years of working for his community.

He enjoyed duck hunting and fishing, watching sports, especially Nicholls State, LSU and the Saints, and playing the slots at local casinos. Larry especially treasured time spent with his family. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
