Karl E. Lewis Jr., 77, a native and resident of Houma, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Coteau Baptist Church. Religious services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

He is survived by his daughter, Melanie LeBlanc and husband, Jaime; son, Frank Austin; two stepchildren, Donald Austin and Linda Authement; 13 grandchildren, Lucas and Kenny Bergeron, Jessica Guidry, Chris, LeAnna, Lindsey, and Cullen LeBlanc, Kelsey Bergeron, Lauren, and Chris Authement, Greg, Steve, and Ryan Austin; six great-grandchildren, Cole Guidry, Lane LeBlanc, Tyler and Mia Austin, Georgia and Eva-Catherine Austin; and god daughter, Ann Gwin Duval.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary D. Lewis; and parents, Karl E. Lewis Sr. and Gwinette J. Lewis.

He was a 1952 graduate of Terrebonne High School and a 1959 graduate of LSU law school. He was a practicing attorney in Houma for 52 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam era. He received the Elton Darsey Lifetime Achievement Award from the Terrebonne Parish Bar Association in 2004.

He loved chess, baseball, reading books, tennis, foreign languages, and LSU. He was a wonderful story-teller and a huge history buff.

He never met a stranger. He loved his friends and family. He was a wonderful dad, grandpa and friend to all who knew him.
