John A. Prejean, 96, a native of Gray and resident of Houma, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 14, 2014. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers will be: Darrel Landry, Pernell Robertson, Danny LeCompte, J.D. LeCompte, Bobbie Hidalgo and Aaron Robertson.He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Marie Clark Prejean; son, David Prejean and wife, Katie; daughter, Elaine Bayus and husband, Frank; sister, Velma "Larrie" Dill: grandchildren, Stacy P. Bascle and husband, Kevin, Jerry Prejean and wife, Vicky, Jennifer B. Landry and husband, Darrel, and Angela B. Robertson and husband, Pernell; 10 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand and Odele Breaux Prejean; and brothers, Leonie, Clay, Ivy and Ferdinand Prejean.John was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served in the African and Italian campaigns. He was a farmer and later a carpenter contractor. He loved to fish, hunt and garden.
