Joann "Mama Jo" Gillies, 74, a native of Port Huron, Mich. and resident of Houma for 30 years, died Sunday, June 5, 2011.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Falgout Funeral Home in Houma and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2 at a later date.
She is survived by three sons, Michael Gillies and girlfriend, Dina Crochet, Russell Gillies and wife, Tammy, and James Gillies and wife, Amber; one daughter, Cindy Mabile and husband, Stacy; one brother, Eugene Hassar and wife, Pat; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sophie Hassar.
She was a bus driver for the Terrebonne Parish School Board for 21 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother and she loved to cook for her family.
