James Steck, 82, a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., and resident of Houma, died Thursday, April 21, 2011.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. till funeral time Wednesday at Falgout Funeral Home in Houma. Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial in Garden of Memories in Gray.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Francis Steck; four daughters, Ellen and husband, Michael Gustafson, Susan Shepherd, Jenny and husband, Don Cobb, and Linda Steck; eight grandchildren, Heather and husband, Rodney Derocher, Joseph and wife, Kelly Gustafson, Christian Steck, Nicholas Griffin, Danielle Cobb, Charlie Cobb, Ian Steck and Alexa Shepherd; six great-grandchildren, Lillian, Kimberly, Samantha and Madison Deroche and Ethan and Liam Gustafson; and one brother, Eugene Steck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederic and Helen Beckman Steck.
He was retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years and was a Korean and Vietnam veteran. He moved to Houma in 1971 and was the owner of J.S. Handicap Specialties.
