Ivy John Leonard, 98, a native and resident of Houma, passed away Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014.Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Wednesday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery II.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eula Redmond Leonard; daughter, Janet Hinkie and husband, Michael; son, Gerald and wife, Brenda; grandchildren, Christian Hinkie and wife, Jessica, Laura Hinkie, Samantha Leonard, and Adam Leonard; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Rita L. Bonvillain.He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Agnes B. Leonard; brothers, Eddy, Joseph, Irvin, Harry, William, Herbert, Clinton, Roy, Clarence, and James; and sisters, Ruby Leonard, Margaret Hebert, Agnes Gautreaux, Gladys Pregeant, and Hattie Martin.Ivy was one of the oldest World War II veterans in Terrebonne Parish, serving in the U.S. Army in France and the UK. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 31, the VFW, and a retiree of Texaco. He loved to cook and was known for his delicious gumbos; he cooked for several actors and singers, including the actor, Walter Matthau, during the war.
