Harvey Oliver Wylie, 86, passed away comfortably in his sleep, Friday, June 13, 2014.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Luling. A military service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. A celebration Mass of Harvey's life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Harvey placed in eternal rest in St. Charles Cemetery.
It was in New Orleans, in 1951, he swept Lois Gendron off her feet while dancing on the President. Later that year, she became his bride of 62 years, and he was blessed, in turn, by five children, Charlene, Debbie, Chuck, Dan and Renee'; then grandchildren, Ursula, Jennifer, Branden, Dylan, Roland and Kayla; and again with great-grandchildren, Kate, Michael, Robert and Jameson.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Justen.
Honor, love, integrity and family summarize well the life of Harvey O. Wylie, devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. His long, humble life began Oct. 27, 1927, in Needles, California. His father, Harvey Oliver (senior), passed away when he was a newborn, and his mother, Catherine, raised Harvey, his sister, Laverne, and twin siblings, brother, Jack (deceased), and sister, Geraldine (90), until her death when Harvey was in his early 20's.
Harvey served in the U.S Navy, stationed in Oakland, California, in the early 1950's. He and his wife raised their family in southern California, Temple City, while he worked as an electrical salesman for Associated Wholesale Electric of Los Angeles. Upon retirement at age 50, he and his wife and youngest daughter, Renee', moved to Houma, which they called home and enjoyed the last 36 years there.
Two words describe Harvey O. Wylie - Others First! He was a man of Christian faith and lived his life with a servant's heart. His was a life marked by unwavering love and the highest level of caring. Harvey never acted to benefit himself; instead he gave unselfishly to others. He was a kind-hearted, caring man, who shared everything he had with others. He taught us how to love unconditionally, forgive, how to respect others and the joy of giving. He never met a stranger. Harvey's passion was his wife and family. He was a special man who truly inspired others through his kindness, always helping anyone in need. He lived life to the fullest.
Harvey is now gone, but the wonderful memories of his life are ours to keep! He will be remembered as an incredible man with a willingness to always see the best in others!
