Harris "Nunny" Matherne Jr.

Harris “Nunny” Matherne, Jr., 74, a native of Marrero and resident of Bayou Gauche passed away on Sunday, March 16th, 2025.

Nunny is survived by his loving wife of 54 years: Sharon Martinez Matherne; his daughter: Shelley Matherne; daughter-in-law: Melissa Matherne; brother: Larry Matherne (Jeannie); sister: Betty Orgeron (Teddy); grandsons Drew DeJean (Chase), Alex DeJean, Jean Paul Matherne, Adam DeJean, and Jace Matherne; brother-in-law: Merrill Martinez (Nora); and sister-in-law: Susan Martinez.

He is also survived by godchildren: Joy Cavalier (Darrin), Kerry Cheramie (Rod), and Kristi Boudreaux (Sammy); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Nunny was preceded in death by his parents: Harris Sr. and Leontine Matherne; son: Harris ‘Jay’ Matherne, III; sisters: Mary Ann Boudreaux (Curtis), Mae Ellen Petit (Mavor), Lois Matherne; In-laws: Goldie and Alden Martinez, Sr.; sister-in-law: Sheila Conrad (Harold); and brothers-in-law: Darryl Martinez, and Alden Martinez Jr.

Nunny was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and taking it on road trips, he also loved traveling with his beloved wife. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, he adored them immeasurably. He never failed to make you smile and laugh. He will be greatly missed.

A wake will be held on Monday, March 24th, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Paradis, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a memorial mass.
