Gerald John Cheramie

Gerald John Cheramie, 90, of Grand Isle, Louisiana passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 24, 2022.

Memorial services will be held Friday, January 6, 2023, at Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church, Grand Isle, LA at 11:00AM. Visitation from 9:30AM to time of service. Interment will be at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Larose, LA.

Gerald was born in Harvey, Louisiana on June 18,1932, to William and Armine Danos Cheramie.

Gerald married Betty Jean Dunn and together they had four children, Geraldine, James (Heidi) Freddie (Nannette) and Alan (Norma). Betty pre-deceased Gerald.

In 1974, Gerald married Jane Elizabeth Newmister and gained 5 bonus children, Gary Clarkson, Terry Clarkson, Rebecca Hill (Tommy), Robert Clarkson (Becky), and Kristen Nolan.

He worked for the Jefferson Parish Police Department and as a shrimper. Gerald enjoyed spending time on the water and gardening.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Jane N. Cheramie; 4 children; 5 stepchildren; 17 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren he leaves behind many nieces and nephews and two sisters –in law, Helen Tassin Cheramie and Shirley Dunn Esponge.

Gerald was pre-deceased by his parents, Armine and William Cheramie; His first wife, Betty Cheramie; His siblings, Annette Dugas, William Joseph Cheramie, and Louis Joseph Cheramie; His Grandson, Nicholas James Cheramie; and Great-Grandson, Oliver J. Cheramie.
