Gerard "Jerry" Francis Bascle Sr., 79, a native and resident of Bourg, was received into his heavenly home at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Falgout Funeral Home and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at St. Ann Church in Bourg. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Benoit Bascle; son, Ricky Bascle Sr. and wife, Catherine, residing in Georgia; son, Gerard "Gee" Francis Bascle Jr. residing in Nebraska; his daughter, Rochelle Bascle and husband, Glenn of Bourg; five grandchildren, Ricky James Bascle Jr., Adam Gerard Bascle, Caitlin Elizabeth Bascle, Autin Michael Bascle and Cara Elizabeth Bascle; and sister, Betty Bascle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Bascle and Ella Hebert Bascle; sister, Lucille Bascle; and brothers, Oneil, Merlin, Hubert, Floyd, Bryon, Horace, Allen, and Bobby Bascle.
He was a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church.
Gerard was proud to be a lifetime employee of Texaco, retiring in 1992 after 39 years of service. Jerry was given the nickname "Chick" by his fellow workers because he was the youngest and smallest man in the crew. "Chick" eventually became "Chicken" He also served in the National Guard.
The family extends "Special Thanks" to Sandy, Eva, Joe, and Kaydra of Southern Care. Also Thanks to Leslie Baio, Sandra Brister, Carley Walker and our beloved father Ty. A special thanks also goes to Ronnie for being such a good friend.
Gerard was a wonderful and loving "Poppy", husband and father who lived for his grandkids and children. Jerry will be greatly missed.
