Gene Paul Thibodeaux

February 15, 1946 — July 30, 2018

Gene P. Thibodeaux, 72, a native of Morgan City and resident of Raceland, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018.
Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at St. Hilary Catholic Church in Raceland, LA. A memorial service will follow. A private burial will be held at a later date.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lee Daigle Thibodeaux; daughter, Tammy Thibodeaux Wendelschaefer (John); grandson, Jake Orgeron; step-grandson, Tyler Dietrich; stepfather, Roy Guidroz; brother, John Thibodaux; sisters, Katherine “Kitty” Dupre’ and Connie Dorsey; Nephews, Carl “Squeaky” Dupre’, Craig Loupe, Cal Thibodaux, Cody Thibodaux, and Jared Dorsey; nieces, Cindy Hart and Carey Loupe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manton Thibodeaux and Maxine Guidroz; brother, Charles Thibodeaux; sister, Dolores Loupe; niece, Carla Breaux; beloved fur babies Puddin and Itty Bit.
Gene was a devoted and hardworking husband, father and family man. He served in the Army as a motor pool mechanic in Okinawa during the Vietnam War and was recognized with an award for his sharpshooting skills. His exemplary work skills and ethics carried him many places including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and even overseas to Nigeria. He continued his career as a welder at Bollinger’s Shipyard in Lockport where he retired as Senior Planner in October of 2017 after 37 years.
He was an avid fisherman and loved to be on the water. He enjoyed eating good food but preferred to watch others enjoy his cooking, especially his specialty, chicken and dumplings. Known for his sense of humor, he always enjoyed a good laugh with family and friends.
His family would like to give special thanks to all the healthcare professionals who contributed to his care, especially Dr. Russell Henry, Dr. Gregory Maidoh and their staff and the staff of Amedisys Home Health Care.
