Faron "Scoop" Chiasson, 56, a lifelong resident of Galliano, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Falgout Funeral Home in Galliano and from noon to funeral time Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church. Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial immediately following in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Mary Savoie Chiasson; cherished daughter of 14 years, Fallon; beloved dog, Pup; father, Arnold Chiasson; brother, Carl Chiasson and wife, Terri; brother-in-law, Phil Savoie and wife, Pat; one niece, Michelle Gray and husband, Ken; three nephews, Tom Savoie, Carlin, and Jon Chiasson; and two great-nieces, Hannah and Kate Gray.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Juliet Pitre Chiasson.

He was an active parishioner and extraordinary minister of the Eucharist of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a member of the finance council. Faron was past president and member of the pastoral council. He was a deeply religious man who enjoyed seeking the Lord with different Christian communities.

He was a successful business man of 34 years in the marine industry. Faron was proud that he still holds the record for the SLHS Men's 4x400 relay.

Faron was a loving, competitive father who enjoyed cheering and coaching Fallon and her friends through basketball, volleyball and track.

He was an inspiration to all those who knew him and will be greatly missed!
