Evelyn Gray Gouaux, age 96, native of Thibodaux and resident of Lockport died peacefully at her home on February 27, 2021.
Visitation will be held at Falgout Funeral Home, in Lockport, on Saturday, March 6th from 8:30 am until 11:00 am. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Savior Catholic Church at 11:30 am with a private burial to follow.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Susan Hagman (David), L. Phillip Gouaux, Jr. (Becky), Jayne Bordelon (Lee); seven granddaughters, Dionne O’ Brien (Jay), Andrea Gouaux, Jeanne Gouaux, Louise Gouaux, Aimee O’Gwynn (Michael), Mattie Gouaux (Kim), Ashleigh Bordelon and 18 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Walter J. and Mary Jayne “Velma” Williams Gray; husband, Louis P. Gouaux, Sr.; son, Peter James Gouaux; daughter-in-law, Pixie Gouaux and siblings, Dorothy Gray Robichaux and Walter Gray Jr.
She received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from ULL, formerly USI. Evelyn met her husband as a young girl, married in 1945 and moved to Lockport where she resided until her death. They were married for 66 years, until his death in 2014. Evelyn lived her whole married life being a great wife, mother to her four children and later a loving grandmother and great grandmother. She loved being a housewife and enjoyed using her degree in home economics allowing her to express her talents as an excellent cook. Evelyn enjoyed decorating for holiday meals. She would often cook tasty dishes for all to enjoy, many would remember her saying “Are you hungry?” or “If you are happy, I’m happy.”
