Mrs. Ethel Rita Smith, 90, of Galliano, passed away on Thursday afternoon, June 11, 2020. She was born on March 2, 1930 in Schriever, Louisiana.
She is survived by her children Charles Clyde Smith Jr. of Cut Off, Dr. Eddie Matthew Smith and his wife Lynelle of Larose, Dr. Patrick Allan Smith of Metairie, Dr. Brian David Smith of San Antonio, Texas, and Kathryn Mary Smith of Galliano. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie, Brian, Gregory, Melanie, Christopher, Gabriella, Tyler and Matthew, her great grandchildren Makinley, Aaron and Aiden, her sister Rose Lee of Galliano, and her brothers Norman Plaisance of Galliano, and Simon Plaisance of Deer Park, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, DCCM Charles Clyde Smith, her father, Etienne Paul Plaisance Sr., her mother, Theresa Pauline Aguillard Plaisance, brothers, Etienne Jr., Eddie, Raymond Sr., Gillis, Gabriel, Avit, Anthony, and Gustave Plaisance, and sisters, Mary Raney, Clothilde Callais, Mathilda Plaisance, and Albina Plaisance.
Ethel devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, friends. and those seeking the Roman Catholic faith. For many years she volunteered in the RCIA program at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in Golden Meadow.
A Catholic Mass and burial in the church cemetery were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off for her family, relatives, and friends.
Arrangements were by Falgout Funeral Home in Galliano.
