Elsie Matherne, 84, a native of Gheens and a resident of Houma, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017.
Visitation will be held from 9 AM until service time on Wednesday, July 5 at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church in Mathews. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, at the church, with burial to follow in the church mausoleum.
She is survived by her 3 children, Jeffrey, James, and Catherine Matherne; 9 grandchildren, Aaron, Nick, Seth, Tim, Taylor, Mallory, and Bailey Matherne, Claudia Bourgeois, and Megan LeCompte; and 10 great-grandchildren, Macy, Payton, Brandon, Alex, Abby, and Adeline Matherne, Cohn, Trace, and Finley LeCompte, and Ava Bourgeois; sister, Velma Arabie and brother, Gilbert Plaisance.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Medwick Matherne; son, Bryan Joseph Matherne, 2 grandsons, Bryan Matthew Matherne and Lyle Jacob Matherne; parents, Alex and Emily Dufrene Plaisance; brothers, Lenest, Levi, Tony; sisters, Earline, Clement, Hazel, Vesta, Lorena, Ester, Edna and Edith.
