Edwis "Brother" Dufrene, Sr., 79, a native of Larose and a resident of Lockport, passed away on February 22, 2017.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Falgout Funeral Home, Lockport, and from 8:00 am until 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Holy Savior Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife 57 years, Velma Roussel Dufrene; sons, Edwis Jr. (Myra), Charles, Richard (Melinda), Ray (Melissa); daughters, Annette D. Hebert (Kirk), Ellen D. Sevin, (T.J.), Sandra D. Doucet (Chet); sisters, Barba D. Champagne and Diane D. Martinez; brothers, Rudy, Gillis Jr., and Teddy Dufrene; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gillis Dufrene, Sr. and Marie Gautreaux Dufrene and daughter-in-law, Jenny LeBlanc Dufrene.

He was a parishioner of Holy Savior Catholic Church. He was a Eucharistic minister for the home-bound. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3054, for which he served as Grand Knight from 1988-1990 and 2005-2006. He was a Faithful Navigator of the Kermit Trahan Assembly 1878 Fourth Degree.

Edwis was joyfully involved with the KC Christmas party for Special Adults for the past 13 years. He enjoyed attending KC functions, gardening, checking on his cows in the pasture and mowing the yard on his riding lawn mower. He was a sugarcane farmer and was formerly employed at Bollinger Shipyard.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, who will miss him dearly.
