Edmond A. Becnel, III, 85, a native of St. Gabriel and a resident of Lockport, was called home to Heaven while surrounded by family on October 10, 2017.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Holy Savior Catholic Church beginning at 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. The United Veterans League will have a presentation of the flag at 10:00 am. Burial will be held in the Holy Savior Catholic Mausoleum.
Edmond is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marguerite France Becnel, daughter, Cyndy Richard and husband Baren, son, Scott and wife Mandy, daughter, Mary Michelle, son Todd and wife Ticey, son, Gregg, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Thomas and sister Nell Becnel Foret.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond Becnel, Jr. and Lucille Trosclair Becnel and sister, Elsie Becnel Champagne.
Edmond served his country for two years in the Army during the Korean War. He then attended LSU and Nicholls St. University, graduating with a Master's Degree + 30 in Education. He made a positive and lasting impact on many young lives as a teacher in Lafourche Parish for over 40 years and also as Manager and Director of the Lockport Recreation District and Lockport Swimming Pool. He was a member of the American Legion, an avid LSU and Saints fan, and he enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, reading and doing crossword puzzles. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospice, Dr. James Ellis and the nursing staff at Thibodaux Cancer Center.
