Donald Joseph Gros, 88, native of Gretna, resident of Houma died on Good Friday, April 3, 2015.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday April 7 at Falgout Funeral Home in Houma and from 9 a.m. until funeral time on Wednesday at St Bernadette Catholic Church in Houma. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday April 8 at St. Bernadette with burial in St Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Myrtle Ramoin Gros; three daughters Timmie Authement and husband Nason Jr., Myrna Guidry and husband Craig, and Donna Marchand and husband Mark; his grandchildren Ross Champagne and wife Ashley, Jennifer McNabb, Laura LeBlanc and husband Shawn, Mike McNabb and wife Stephanie, Tara LeBlanc and husband Jude, Magen Bergeron and husband Sam, Zack McNabb, Kaleb Marchand , and Matthew Authement; his great grandchildren Marli McNabb, Jonathan LeBlanc, Joshua Leblanc, Nathan Champagne, Izabel Bergeron, Aubrey LeBlanc, and Jude LeBlanc; his nephew Buddy Domangue and wife Nicole; many other nieces and nephews; his step-grandchildren Kristie Mazur, Tony Authement, Kellie Hebert and husband John, Todd Authement, and Korey Guidry, along with eight step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Lulu Gros and Kate Hotard Gros and his sister Mona Domangue and husband Clayton.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and later was drafted into the 185th Engineering Combat Battalion in the Korean War. Donald rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded a Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars. After his tour of duties, he worked in the oilfield for forty years, retiring from Eastman Whipstock as a directional driller. Donald was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be missed by all of us.
