Daniel “Speedy” Joseph Callais, 78, a native, and resident of Golden Meadow, passed away on Monday, September 25th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church on Monday, October 2, 2023, from 8:30am till service time. A rosary will be recited at 8:45am with Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00am and burial following in the church cemetery.
Mr. Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 52 years: Gail Griffin Callais; daughter: Dodi Callais Charpentier (John); grandchildren: Brittney Marretta (Brocke), and Joshua Charpentier (Teara); great-grandchildren: Ronney Marretta, Alice Marretta, and Zachary Marretta; mother: Nancy M. Callais; brother: Donald Callais (Thistle); sister: Juliet Hebert (Ricky); mother-in-law: Mildred Griffin; sister-in-law: Debra Chiasson; nephews: Duke Duet, Darby Chiasson (Nickole), Chett Chiasson (Lana), Troy Griffin Jr. (Cydni), and Todd Hartman; nieces: Liz Duet and Patches Callais; many great nieces and nephews; and godchildren: Lisa Terrebonne, Gwen Bradberry, Billy Cheramie, Tate Callais, and Desi Sanders.
Mr. Callais was preceded in death by his father: Duless J. Callais; son: Zachary Daniel Callais; sister: Georgia Ann Duet (Will); paternal grandparents: Camille and Martha Callais; maternal grandparents: Joseph and Julie Martin; father-in-law: C.J. Griffin; and brother-in-laws: Troy Griffin Sr. and Chris Chiasson.
He was a sports fanatic for the Indianapolis Colts, LA Dodgers, and Boston Celtics but especially for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved cutting grass as well as umpiring and coaching both baseball and softball for many years.
