Sgt. Major Charles "Charlie" Edward Wiggins, 78, a native of Shelby, N.C. and resident of Raceland, died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Monday at the VFW Hall in Raceland. Religious services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the hall, with burial at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Rushing Wiggins; three sons, Malcolm Wiggins and wife, Katharin, James Wiggins, and Kenneth Wiggins and wife, Donna; one stepson, Clarence H. Singletary Jr.; one daughter, Denise Watts and husband, Ashley; two stepdaughters, Jennie Rebecca Armstrong and Jene Rochel Singletary; one sister, Aileen Walker; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Wiggins; his parents, Guy and Vernie Wiggins; six brothers, Andy, Bob, Eugene, John, G.W., and Lloyd Wiggins; one sister, Mary Lee Hufstickler; and one grandchild.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of V.F.W., American Legion and Cooties.
