Andrew J. Peltier, 91, a native of Terrebonne Parish and a resident of Houma, died at 1:14 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by five children, Daniel J. (Maudeline S.) of Houma, Beverly P. (Ashley Matherne) of Bourg, Robert A. (Bernice) of East Lansing, Mich., Pamela P. (Arthur Breaux) of Houma, and Andrea P. (Ray Guidry) of Luling; one sister, Lee Dora P. (Sherwin Guidry) of Baton Rouge; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Doris Crochet Peltier; his parents Alfred Peltier and Felecia Champagne Pelter; two brothers Wilbert Peltier and Leo Peltier; sister, Bernice P. Griffin; and one granddaughter, Brittany Woodrulff.
He was a World War II veteran of The U.S. Army 13th Air Force assigned to the 371st Bomb Squadron Jan. 17, 1944. As a combat aircrew member of a B24 Bomber, he was the Upper Turret Gunner and participated in bombing missions and patrol duty in the South Pacific. He received The Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and The Philippine Liberation awards for campaigns which included New Guiena, The South Philippines (Liberation), Luzon and Air Combat USA FPAC Cir 91 1945 (Borneo). He received an Honorable Discharge December 7, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant.
Peltier continued his pre-service welding employment with The Texas Company, Montegut Shipyard. After advancing through various jobs, positions and continued education, he retired February 1982 and received commendation awards for 40 years of service. He was a Senior Certified Engineering Technician, member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and Woodman of the World.
He was a former parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and former resident of Terrebonne House Assisted-Living and Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
