Allen P. Pellegrin, 90, a native of Houma, died on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Veterans Nursing Home in Monroe, LA.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 AM until 11 AM on Tuesday, October 25 at Falgout Funeral Home in Houma. A military service will be held at 9:30 AM followed by a prayer service at 11 AM on Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, Glenn and wife Myra P. Pellegrin, and Randy and wife Pam B. Pellegrin; 7 grandchildren, Ryan, Spencer, and Brandon Pellegrin, Kimberly Pellegrin Wimberly, Nicole Pellegrin Brogger, Katie Pellegrin Dupre, and Megan Pellegrin Troxler; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Babin Pellegrin; 3 children, Allen, Lynn, and Curtis Pellegrin; parents, Oscar Pellegrin, Sr. and Pearl Bergeron Pellegrin; 5 brothers, William Pellegrin, Sr., Herman Pellegrin, Sr., Reuben Pellegrin, Sr., Oscar Pellegrin, Jr., and Wilfred Pellegrin; sister, Margaret P. Hebert; grandchild, Kayla Pellegrin; and great-grandchild, Drake Dupre.
Allen was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Annunziata Church, serving as Grand Knight as well as Eucharistic minister for many years, and was awarded the Bishop's Medal for his service with the Houma-Thibodaux diocese. He happily volunteered many years of service to his beloved church. Allen loved people and never met a stranger. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed all sports, but loved his family above all. He was involved in all three of his son's activities throughout his life. As a WWII Veteran, he was one of 42,000 men who served before the age of 18. At the age of 16, he served in combat with the 109th engineer combat battalion, under Gen. Mark Clark, with the 5th Army as part of the 34th "Red Bull" division. Corporal Pellegrin was a radio operator in the European Theatre, participating in the North Africa and Italy campaigns. He was awarded the following commendations: Red/White Ribbon for European Theatre of Operation; Good Conduct Medal; Commendation for 5 major battles.
