Alex Joseph Hebert Jr., 90, a native and resident of Larose, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until funeral time Wednesday at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Larose. Mass will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in Holy Rosary Mausoleum.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Neva Lee Hebert; his sons, Mark Paul and wife, Myra (Hebert), John Anthony and wife, Rachelle (Orgeron), James Philip and wife, Marie (Robert) and Robert Matthew and wife, Julia (Lawshae); his grandchildren, Hayley, Melanie, Adam, Jamie, Alex, Celeste and Emilie Hebert; a sister, Aline Barker (John); brothers, Rene Hebert and Lionel Hebert; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Veleda (Barbier) and Alex Hebert Sr.; his brother, Thomas Hebert; sister, Agatha Badeaux (Norman) and young brothers, Paul, Louis and Joseph Hebert.
He was faithful to his church and to his country by serving as a Marine in WWII in the Pacific Arena. He was crew chief of an amphibian tractor. His job was to unload a boatload of soldiers and supplies on the front lines and to reload with the dead and wounded, then return to the mothership. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Larose and also a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans of America.
He attended LSU and SLI (ULL) with a degree to teach math, science, health and physical education. He was given credit for 27 years in the teaching field under the Lafourche Parish School System. He was a member of the NEA, LAE and the LPRT.
Alex was an avid cattle farmer all of his adult life. He was a member of the Louisiana Cattlemen's Association and the Lafourche Cattlemen's Association. He was a positive role model for his sons and grandchildren as well as his students.
We'd like to give a heartfelt thank you to his faithful and loving caregivers, Roseanna Guidry, Rose Pierce, Mona Chouest, Carolyn and Harris Chabert, Sharon Chiasson and Marilyn Griffin.
Thanks also go to the doctors, nurses, aides and staff of Lady of the Sea Hospital, Ochsner St. Anne Hospital, West Jefferson General Hospital, Lady of the Sea Home Health, and Acadiana and Lafourche Ambulance.
