Alcide Champagne

Alcide “A.J.” “ Champ” Champagne, Jr., 94 patriarch of the family passed away with his loving family at his side. A lifelong resident of Raceland, La.
Visitation will be Monday January 21, 2019 from 9:00am until funeral services. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 12:00 noon with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his children; Paul Champagne, Joy (Steve) Acosta, and Ann Ritchie; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife; Ayres Arcement Champagne, parents; Alcide Joseph, Sr. and Hedwidge Folse Champagne, son-in-law; Bryan Ritchie, daughter-in-law; Laura Bollinger Champagne, siblings ; Milton (Norma) Champagne, Joel (MayLou) Champagne, Maude (Guy) Matherne, Doris (Angelette) Cheramie.
He enlisted in the Marines after graduating high school and served in Occupied Japan. While waiting to be inducted he worked for Higgins Industries and helped construct the Higgins landing craft. He was a K of C council #4761 member, American Legion member, Raceland Lions Club member, Board member of the Finance Committee for the Houma-Thibodaux Diocese, Charter member of the WWII museum, member of the Raceland volunteer Fire Dept. and a member of the Lafourche Parish Tourist commission.
Champ began his career at Raceland Bank and Trust as a teller and retired as President forty years later.
He was a parishioner, lecture, and a Eucharistic minister at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Lafourche #1 volunteer fire dept.
The family would like to thank his caregivers with Ochsner-St.Anne, the Broadway, Heart of Hospice and Notre Dame Hospice for taking excellent care of him.
