Albert Lionel "Smiley" Lasseigne went to the Lord on June 1, 2017. Albert was a native of Lions, Louisiana born on January 13, 1925. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar & Ella Lasseigne and brother Edgar J. Lasseigne. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gilda Klibert Lasseigne, daughter Jean & husband Daniel K. Jens, son Mark & wife Kendall Lasseigne & daughter Amy & husband Claus Sorensen; 5 grandchildren; Jessica, Stephanie, and Matthew Lasseigne; Anders & Ella Sorensen.
Albert served in the European theater during World War II receiving the Purple Heart & the French Legion of Honor Award. Employment with United Gas Pipeline brought him and his family to Houma in the early 1950s. He retired from Vandebilt Catholic High in July 1992 and oversaw the original construction of the high school in the 1960s. He was a founding parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Parish, having served on a committee that helped convinced Archbishop Rummel to establish the Parish. He shared his talents as a master of many mechanical and electrical trades with all who came seeking his assistance.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 5 at St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Parish from 9:00 am until service time. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am with burial to follow at St. Francis de Sales cemetery II.
