A special thanks to Robin Ray for the care and compassion shown in the past months.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy “Dot” Clement Laque; parents, Louis “Jeff” Laque, Sr. and Inez Babin Laque Donnelly; brother, Louis “Jeff” Laque, Jr. and sister, Inez “Sue” Laque McIntire. Also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Albert “Punk” graduated from Hahnville High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Punk worked at Shell Chemical in Norco for 11 years. He began his political career when elected to the Police Jury in 1964. This began his long tenure as a true public servant to the people of St. Charles Parish. In 1968, he left his employment at Shell to become the parish’s first Parish Administrator from 1968-1976. Punk was the Commander of Administrative Services for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office from 1984 to 1988. He was elected to his first term as Parish President in November 1987 and served from 1988-1992. He was then elected again to serve as Parish President from 2000-2008. Punk also worked in the District Attorney’s office in Victim’s Assistance from 2012-2017.

Some of the many accomplishments during his tenure as Parish Administrator and Parish President includes the establishment of the parish seal (Parish of Plenty); the creation of the Recreation Department, Council on Aging and the Economic Development Department. Also during his tenure, the July 4th celebration at the Bridge Park was initiated and groundbreaking for the Eastbank and Westbank Hurricane Protection Levees in 1991 and 2002 respectively. Most significantly, during Hurricane Katrina, his administration worked diligently together with other parish agencies, business and industry to assist in the quick recovery of the parish during this trying time.

Albert was a true public servant, always striving to assist others individually and the community with the goal of bringing people together for the common good in a cooperative spirit. His generosity and kind spirit touched the lives of many in St. Charles Parish and neighboring parishes.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Luling Council 2409.

Above all, he deeply loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Here’s to a “Life Well Lived” Punk.
